Neil Young had a lump of coke hanging from his nose in The Last Waltz during "Helpless". Scorsese had to delay the release in order to edit it out in post.

Being hopped-up aside, I think he looks like a little kid during this song. Look at him when he's looking over at the members of The Band around 2 mins in and then when he goes over to sing in their mic towards the end. He seems like he just wants to be accepted by these guys so badly. It really is one of "the pleasures of his life" playing with these guys. A star being star-struck. Amusing.
